TRANSPORTING DANGEROUS GOODS BY PLANE

DGR air transport

The carriage of goods covered by the DGR (IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations) requires careful transport planning. The DGR is the set of rules established by the International Air Transport Association. These regulations determine which dangerous goods may be transported by air, in what quantities and under what conditions.

In almost all cases, official requirements and safety regulations must be observed, which makes shipping dangerous goods with parcel couriers and shipping service providers impossible. Many dangerous goods may not be shipped in passenger aircraft, but only in cargo planes (Cargo Aircraft Only). Here, strict regulations must be observed in the packaging and labelling of goods.

SHIPPER’S DECLARATION FOR DGR TRANSPORTS

When dangerous goods are transported by aircraft, a shipper’s declaration is required. The following information must be provided:

  • The four-digit UN Number or Identification Number (the substances and articles are divided into 9 classes).
  • The exact name of the hazardous substance in English.
  • The net quantity of the dangerous goods to be transported.
  • The hazard class of the substance or article.
  • The packaging group.
  • The packing instructions.

When transporting some DGR goods by air, the consignor must also provide an emergency telephone number, where he or she can be reached at any time of day or night if required. Thanks to our many years of experience with DGR dangerous goods, we know exactly how to fill out the respective shipper's declaration for each dangerous substance or item. Our telephone number is available 24 hours a day, both for you and for the responsible authorities, so we can expertly answer all questions concerning your transport of dangerous goods.
